Refund cheque retuned due to house locked

10 July 2012 Hi,

I recently received an intimation that the refund cheque for the AY 2009-2010 has been returned back due to my house being locked. I have changed my address and therefore the refund cheque has gone back.

Could you guide me as to what is the process in obtaining the refund from the AO AND also the process for changing the address details of my PAN in the income tax records?

10 July 2012 Please update your new address with the PAN authorities i.e. NSDL. Once your address is updated on their records, please visit your assessing officer with the copy of address proof along with the application of revising the address with the PAN authorities.

Assessing officer after due consideration will release the refund which is blocked in OLTAS and the same will be delivered to you at your new address.

Please note there is no other way of you receiving your refund unless you opt for ECS. In that case, you will be required to write a letter to the assessing officer to opt for ECS of your Income Tax Refund.

Why is it that after updating the address with NSDL do i need to again submit an application for revising the address with the PAN authorities.

10 July 2012 Because the same has been blocked in Oltas. So you need to submit the request to the assessing officer to release the refund
