I had filed return for Income tax for 16000 but refund amount is only 800 what can i do to ask them to recheck

with income tax refund, income tax assessment order is attached always. in which all details like , income which you have assessed in filed return, income which is assesssed by ITO . Tax on the basis of income assessed by ito. tax refunded to you. If you have not received it, then you can ask by IT Department for it.

If u are sure that there is a mistake in the assessment order/intimation u/s 143(1) received by u along with Rs.800/ refund check, file a rectification application u/s 154 before your assessing officer pointing out the mistake and seek a rectified order along with the check for the balance refund amount.
