24 November 2010 What exactly we get from excise in export under rebate claim. I have seen in some cases where cash refunds are given by excise. Is it kind of incentive excise gives us.

24 November 2010 It is a kind of incentive for export.. rebate is nothing but the duty paid on the exported goods which is given back by the Excise dept in CASH.

20 July 2025 What is Excise Rebate/Refund on Exports?
When goods are exported, excise duty paid on inputs and finished goods is often refunded or rebated by the government.
This is to ensure that exports are not burdened with domestic taxes (like excise), keeping them competitive in international markets.
This refund is not a direct incentive or subsidy, but a reimbursement of excise duty already paid on inputs or goods used in the exported product.
Types of Refunds:
Rebate of Excise Duty:
Allowed on the finished goods cleared for export.
Means excise duty paid on the product is rebated because it is exported.
Cash Refund of CENVAT Credit:
If input tax credit (CENVAT credit) has been accumulated but cannot be utilized (due to zero-rated exports), the exporter can claim cash refund of the balance credit.
This is often seen as a cash refund against exports, helping exporters with working capital.
Is it an Incentive?
No, it is not a subsidy or incentive in the sense of a grant or bonus.
It is a refund of taxes already paid, ensuring that export goods are tax neutral.
Helps exporters avoid the tax cascading effect, making exports competitive.
