dear sir,
please advice for i have received notice for filing service tax return st-3.for the last five years or from date of regd.but i have not any type of business after registration .can i surrender the ST no. without filing of ST-3. say what is the process for it how?

if there were NO services then what for the registration was taken?
once registered returns are mandatory, including NIL returns.
get in touch with your Range superintendent with your balance sheet and profit and loss for related years, and ask for cancellation, they will check the genuineness of your statement of "no business" though your balance sheet and PL account, and guide you step by step to cancell the regn/ file nil return.

ST-3 has to be updated by filing NiL returns. Then surrender the registration. Now, registration has to be surrendered through on line. Please see the procedure in my reply to an earlier query in https://www.caclubindia.com/experts/surrender-of-service-tax-registration-number-816510.asp
