09 August 2024 If you have lost the original Exchange Control Copy (ECC) and need to resolve the issue with the Foreign Inward Remittance Certificate (FIRC), follow these steps to address the situation:

### 1. **Contact the Bank:**
- **Inform the Bank:** Reach out to the bank that issued the FIRC and explain that the original ECC is missing. Provide them with all relevant details about the transaction and the FIRC.
- **Request Guidance:** Ask the bank if they accept any alternative forms of documentation or if there is a specific procedure for such cases.

### 2. **Provide a Copy of the FIRC:**
- **Submit FIRC Copy:** Provide a copy of the FIRC along with a letter explaining the situation. The bank might accept this if they can verify the transaction through their records.

### 3. **File a Missing Document Report:**
- **Prepare a Report:** Some banks might require you to file a report or affidavit detailing the loss of the ECC. This report should include:
- Details of the transaction.
- Steps taken to locate the original ECC.
- An explanation of the circumstances leading to the loss.

### 4. **Obtain a Duplicate ECC:**
- **Request Duplicate:** Contact the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) or the authorized dealer bank that issued the original ECC. Request them to issue a duplicate ECC or provide a confirmation of the transaction details.
- **Supporting Documentation:** You may need to provide supporting documentation or evidence to substantiate your request for a duplicate ECC.

### 5. **Documentation from the Bank:**
- **Obtain Confirmation:** If the bank can confirm the details of the remittance and the original ECC is not available, they might issue a confirmation letter or certificate stating that the ECC was not received or is missing.

### 6. **Update Your Records:**
- **Maintain Records:** Keep a record of all correspondence and documentation related to the missing ECC. This will help you in future dealings and provide evidence of your efforts to resolve the issue.

### 7. **Consult a Professional:**
- **Seek Professional Advice:** If you face difficulties or need specific guidance, consider consulting a professional accountant or legal advisor who specializes in foreign exchange and banking matters.

### Summary

While the bank's acceptance of alternative documentation depends on their policies, your best approach is to work closely with the bank and regulatory authorities to find a resolution. Ensure that you maintain thorough records of your communications and any actions taken to address the issue.
