For F.Y. : - 2010 – 2011 , my status is NRI ….. I moved out of India in fy 2009- 2010 and was out of India for entire fy 2010 – 2011…
while I was in India, I had made certain investments from my Indian income in Private Bank Fd’s, Private Company fd’s and Post office income schemes….
I have received interest on all of the above investments for Fy 2010-2011....deposited in local indian bank a/c… and have also received one off Referral bonus income from my previous Indian employer in India
Total income amts to approx Rs. 2,35,000 /= and have deductions available from 80 C – PPF ( continued ) Rs.70,000 /= & LIC 50,000 /= 80 D – 15,000 /= 80 G - donation of Rs.30,000 /=
I want to know if I file my I.T.Return for fy 2010-2011 in India bcos of Indian income then will I be able to claim deductions under 80 C , 80 D, 80 G from all of my above mentioned Indian income…..
As one of my colleague told me over here that u r not allowed to claim deductions under 80c,80d,80g if u have only Investment income in India and are filing return as a NRI….
I have made all of the above investment while I was in India ... if I can claim these deductions can ITR 1 be filed showing salary income ( referral bonus received ) and interest income…

Amount received from a former employer is also treated as salary income.
