what are the consequence for not attendeding GMCS during first year of articleship

Let me tell you as icai has given time to complete gmcs1 with in 31.12.2012 it is strongly recommended to students to complete course in time prescribed

As there is no consequences defined by ICAI on non completion of GMCS1 during the said period,
However ICAI may extent the time period..
However, its advisable to do it as soon as possible if you have missed the deadline...

But dont underestimate icai as sooner or later it will come out with some penal provisions.
