More than one demat and trading account

i have already a demat (NSDL) and share trading account with icicidirect can i open a new demat(NSDL) and trading account with axisdirect without closing my existing account with icicidirect ? Can i trade from both accounts at same time ? in general i want to can an individual person holds more than one demat and share trading account in his name at same time?

you can open any number of demat and trading accounts. there is no statutory limit on the same.
