if Turnover for FY 2018-19 was only Rs 1.25 Cr. and i have filed belated GSTR-9, and portal was not calculated late fees.
now department demanding late fee on delay filling GSTR-9,
what is the legal positing, am i liable for pay late fees or not

02 December 2023 not liable to pay late fees as turnover was below 2 crore and filing of GSTR-9 was not compulsory.

15 January 2024 Yes late fee will be still applicable even if the filling is optional for us. We have to file it withing the due dates and simply can not file after the due date saying it's optional for us. This makes sense and logical to me.
