15 July 2013 The exemption from filing I-T returns is applicable only if 'the total income of the employee does not exceed Rs. 5 lakh ... (and) the annual interest earned from savings bank account is less than Rs. 10,000'

15 July 2013 1)income from stipend is exempt from income tax under section 10(16)

2)so if your income other than stipend exceeds basic exemption limit you are mandatorily required to file return under section 139(1)

3)so ITR2 or ITR4 will be applicable to you depend on your source of income..

Even though stipend income is exempt income you can show in Sheet "EI" serial number 5
