26 July 2009 hello,

i want to know about ITR 4 return, A person who have only 194 j (Professional Income)income & only interest income can he file return ITR 4 for refund of TDS without maintaing books of accounts.

In ITR 4 a seprate col provide for non maintenence of books of accounts

can he fill only gross income & exps & net profit & cash balance & TDS details for ITR 4 Filing,

Is he corrct or not

26 July 2009 Maintenance of books depends on the applicability of Section 44AA. If the assessee is covered under section 44AA, he shall be required to maintain the books of accounts, and fill up the complete ITR 4, otherwise he can fill only that special column also.

27 July 2009 ITR4 can be filed by him.
It depends upon the type of profession. Medical, engineering, technical consultancy, interior decorations etc are such professions in which Books of Account are required to be maintained.
You could get specific answer only when particulars re- profession and income are available.
