Dear Sir / Madam
if i wanted to file a IT return for financial year 2006-07. Can I file the same now? As per my knowledge I can't file the return. Is there any other way to file a return for the same period?
Please help me out.

You cant file now, if wanted to file just find out from department weather they will accept with penalty of 5k...

No. You can not file the return at all. Even the department will not accept the same because it is also not over the law.

Mr.Tarun's view is correct because filing is barred by time.

as per my knowledge, you may file the return. but if tax liability is there means, you have to pay tax along with reasonable tax interest and penality. you may contact concern authority, you have to produce valid reason for not file the return the get the acceptance as per income tax section 148 or Sec.153A. please discuss with our experienced experts or any chartered accountant.

Dear Mr Haridhyalan, you can not file the retun because ultimately the Income tax Act does not allow for this. It had prescribed time limits and no officer can go beyond those limits.
