Intimation u/s 143(1) even after paying tax

01 February 2010 Hi,

I got intimation under section 143(1) stating that I need to pay tax of Rs. 2390 for the assessment year 2008-2009. I have already paid the tax of Rs. 2392 on 24/07/2008. I have counter foil from the bank. It is clear mistake from Income Tax Officer. I have read it somewhere in this site that it can be rectified under section 154. What is the process? Is this same as appealing against notice? Where to apply? I filed return under Additional Commissioner of IT, while got notice from Income Tax Officer. Also what will the fees? If I go to Commissioner of Income-tax (Appeals), I need to pay Rs. 1000. This seems strange to me as I need to pay for someone else mistake -;)

01 February 2010 There is no need to pay any fees, just write a formal letter stating that there was a mistake on his part & meet him personally, explainng the same. It should do, no need to pay anything.

04 February 2010 Thanks guys. It worked for me. This was my first visit to Ayakar Bhavan. ITO refused to talk to me. I have found from other guys that I need to submit application at inward section. I have submitted it and they gave me stamped acknowledgment.
