what is the maximum time limit the assessing officer has to serve the demand notice under section 156 of income tax act 1961.

Demand notice u/s 156 has to be served along with the assessment order/intimation.
It CANNOT be served separately.
Accordingly, the time limit applicable for completion of assessment/issue of intimation is applicable to demand notice as well.
