An A.o has surveyed the premises of a client and impounded the books of account, now after 20 days also he didn't return books of account irrespective of several request. As maximum period for which A.o can retain the books are 10 days except where permission has been taken from Chief CIT.But i would like to know that whether A.o is liable to inform us that since permission has been taken from chief CIT to extend the period of retaining. As we have made several request to A.o still he is not replying us any thing about the matter. How should we proceed further.

Since the case is already in dispute it is better to resolve the matter peacefully. . Have you made the request in writing? Request in writing to the CIT to get released the books. .
