03 December 2010 Dear Sirs,

please help me for the following situation:

Suppose a person goes abroad and buys a Cell phone for personal usage and brings it to India.Then is some tax applicable?

If yes ,what is the percentage?

and is there any way to get exemption from said tax?

as my knowledge if you buy the mobile personla use and used mobile that in US its not taxble. i have tell this thing by concerned the laptops concept.

04 December 2010 no there is no duty & any other taxes on purchase from abrod for personal use. But required permission from custom. for that draft letter to Custom "I m purchasing so & so item for my personal use, so please allow me with nil duty."

20 December 2010 please noted that as per custom baggage rules,2006 up to 25000/- is exempted.
