We are registered u/s 25 companies(an NGO company). we want to import books. I want to know that for importing books, do we have to get IMPORT EXPORT CODE? If yes, then what is a procedure for that?

I WANTED TO INFORM YOU FOR IMPORT -EXPORT IN INDIA IEC IS MANDATORY.
AS PER PARA 2.12 OF CURRENT FOREIGN TRADE POLICY , " NO EXPORT OR IMPORT SHALL BE MADE BY ANY PERSON WITHOUT AN IEC NUMBER UNLESS SPECIFICALLY EXEMPTED. AN IEC NUMBER SHALL BE GRANTED ON APPLICATION BY COMPETENT AUTHORITY IN ACCORDANCE WITH PROCEDURE SPECIFIED IN HBP Vl
please noted that this laws laws not apply on INDIVIDUAL/ CHARITABLE INSTITUTION / REGISTERED NGOs IMPORTING GOODS WHICH HAVE BEENEXEMPT FROM CUSTOM DUTY UNDER NOTIFICATION ISSUED BY MINISTRY OF FINANCE FOR BONAFIDE USE BY VICTIM AFFECTED BY NATURAL CALMITY .
INSTEAD IEC , YOU CAN GET CODE NO. 0100000126 ON THE BILLOF ENTRY .
I ADVISE U PLS. HIRE A CHA CHA WILL MANAGE ALL THE FORMALTIES.
EXCEPT IT ANY EXPORTER CAN GET IEC FROM THE URL:-
