12 March 2012 what is the rate of stamp duty payable on the issue of share certificate as per Indian Stamp Act, 1899????

12 March 2012 Please guide me that an employee of BSNL getting Additional HRA i.e. one for old place of posting and another for current place of posting as he has joined North East - II circle the double HRA provision is applicable. So in this regard whether he can claim both the rent receipt ( family and own residence occupation) for HRA exemption benefit. His family is residing in another state i.e. in Andhra Pradesh but the employee is staying in Nagaland.

20 July 2025 Part 1: Stamp Duty on Issue of Share Certificate (Indian Stamp Act, 1899)

The Indian Stamp Act, 1899, provides the base stamp duty, but actual rates are often governed by State Stamp Acts, as stamp duty is a state subject.

📌 General (Default) Rate:
As per Article 19 of Schedule I to the Indian Stamp Act, 1899:
Stamp duty on issue of share certificate is ₹1 per ₹1,000 (0.1%) of the value of shares or part thereof.
So, if you issue share certificates worth ₹1,00,000, stamp duty = ₹100
⚠️ Note: Always check your State Stamp Act (e.g., Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, etc.) because some states may prescribe different rates or flat fees.

✅ Part 2: HRA Exemption – Double HRA for Employee Posted in NE Region

You mentioned an employee of BSNL receiving:

Additional HRA due to posting in North East (NE-II) region (Nagaland), and
HRA for old place of posting where the family resides (Andhra Pradesh)
