HI,
One of my colleague is working in bangalore. He stays with his family in arented house.after some days due to his currnet employment he suppose to work in chennai. He use to go to bangalore during weekends and holidays and he has option to work from home too.
My question is whether he can HRA on rent paid in bangalore.
IT Act says , accomodation should be occupied by the assessee, since he is not staying but paying rent to his family can he claim HRA?
Please suggest..Thanks in advance

HRA exemption can be allowed, where the employee staying that particular house only, whether staying with family or not is immaterial. as per given query HRA can be allowed for rent for staying in chennai house only since his base work place in chennai. not for Bangalore house

Suppose if any employee is going on work for 1month to other place say mumbai but his work place is bangalore, do u mean for that month he cant be provided any HRA?

When you are sending any employee for deputation for short period, that period where he/she staying in that place, that place rent can be claimed under HRA
Incase if you are sending person to Mumbai 1 month, in mumbai where he is staying for that rent he can claim for HRA.
Basic eligible for HRA exemption, employee working place and house rent for the particular house in that particular working place
