sir/madam,
I came to know that my grandfather had some shares in a listed company,but i dont have any kind of documentary details.please help me how to obtain status of those shares.

Try to enquire with which broker your grandfather holds DP account(demat account).if you find that enquire his DP ID AND CLIENT ID through your grand father PAN no.once it is traced you can claim ownership on shares if u have valid nomination or by producsing legal heir certificate,
It will be very difficult if you dont know CLIENT ID AND DP ID.
May be you need to contact NSDL OR CSDL if you unable to get your grand father broker details,
You just have to try filing RTI application seeking client ID and DP ID using your grand father PAN NO.
