24 December 2012 I AM CONFUSED IN REGARD TO THE EXEMPTION LIMIT OF Rs.750 & Rs.1500. TRANSPORTER HAS ISSUED A CONSIGNMENT OF Rs.1350 FOR CONSIGNMENT.
SERVICE TAX DEPARTMENT SAYS TO PAY THE SERVICE TAX ON THAT AMOUNT.

25 December 2012 This exemption now sl no.19 of Not 25/12 specifies that if there is 1 consignment transported in 1 transport carraige the value does not exceed Rs. 1500 then the exemption is available.
At times multiple consignments are sent thru 1 transport carriage. In such cases the exemption per consignment is reduced to 750. It may happen that 5 packages are sent for which charges are 600. then also the exemption would apply.
