1. GSTP Registration vs. GSTIN for Business GST Practitioner (GSTP) registration is specifically for individuals authorized to file GST returns on behalf of others (like clients).
GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number) is for businesses engaged in supply of goods or services, including trading.
They are two different registrations under GST law.
2. Your Situation You are registered as a GST Practitioner (GSTP) but not registered as a regular taxable person/business under GST.
Now you want to start a stationery trading business (which requires a regular GST registration under GSTIN).
The portal shows you are “already registered” as GSTP, but this does not mean you have a GSTIN for your business.
3. What to do? You must apply separately for GSTIN for your trading business.
GSTP registration does NOT cover your own business activities.
You can apply for GSTIN on your own name for the trading business, even if you have GSTP registration.
GST Practitioner registration and GSTIN for business are independent registrations and won’t conflict.
4. If you apply in your name for GSTIN No issues arise just because you hold GSTP registration separately.
You will have two separate registrations: one as GST Practitioner and one as a regular taxable person (GSTIN) for your trading business.
Both are valid and allowed under law.
5. If you want to apply GSTIN in your wife’s name You can do that too, but ensure she is authorized to operate the business.
Registration in spouse’s name is allowed but has implications for ownership, taxation, etc.
