I have received gratuity amount in Aug-24 but the amount is not part of form 16 received from employer for 2024-25. Please advise if I can show the same under Exempt Income category without showing as a part of the salary will I be getting any notice for the same.

Gratuity is tax-exempt up to ₹20 lakh for employees covered under the Payment of Gratuity Act, or as per limits specified for other employees. The least of the following is exempt: actual gratuity received, ₹20 lakh (for those covered), or the calculated eligible amount. If not reflected in Form 16, the exempt portion of gratuity may still be claimed in the ITR under “Exempt Income” (Section 10(10)), provided you keep documentation in case of any later inquiry. Retain documents like the gratuity payment slip, employer letter, and calculation as per exemption rules. If queried, these will support your claim and minimize any risk of penalty or extended review.

In name of document for payment of gratuity, I only have bank statement wherein Gratuity is mentioned, and no other document is provided by the employer for this, is this would be sufficient for further purpose.
