04 June 2012 Can any one tell me what is the consequence of service tax paid under Goods Tranport Agency Service throuth Cheque instead of cash ? Plz reply soon.

05 June 2012 E-payment of service tax was made mandatory from April 1, 2010, vide notification No. 1/2010-service tax dated February 19, 2010, for those assessees who had paid service tax of Rs10 lakh (personal ledger account+Cenvat) or more in a preceding financial year.

There has been no change in the circular No.1/2010-ST dated February 19, 2010 and only those assesses who in the previous year have paid service tax of Rs10 lakh including Cenvat credit shall only have to compulsorily make e-payment of service tax rest of the assesses can continue to make service tax payments in the designated banks as before.

So you have rightly paid by Cheque
