Pursuant to the provisions of section 172(2) of the Companies Act, 1956 a preference shareholder is entitled to receive the notice of the GM of the Company and is also entitled to attend the meeting but shall be entitled to vote only inrespect of those business which affect his rights as a Preference shareholder of the Company.

The rights of preferance shareholder are a bit limited. No the presence of preference shareholder is not necessary in EGM.

Attending GM of company is a right of shareholder of the company and not obligation.
