Please tell us if i received a disturbance allowance is it taxable in the head of Income From Salry of Income From Other Sources or exempt from tax

05 September 2011 Disturbance Allowance is payment of ‘Transfer grant’ for transferred officers. It is taxable under the head 'income from salary'.

06 September 2011 This Disturbance Allowance Scheme is designed to provide financial assistance to newly appointed employees who have to move from their existing home to a new home in the Canterbury Area as a direct result of their appointment with this Authority. Canterbury City Council operates the Scheme outside the ambit of any National Agreement, as such there is no automatic entitlement to the facilities contained herein and each application will be considered on its merit. The East Kent HR Partnership will administer and advise in the content of the Scheme. It is, however, incumbent upon the participant to ensure that he or she fully understands the content and spirit of the Scheme.

Payment in the nature of any type of allowance is taxable and shall form of part of the salary
