If i do not use assets at any point of time in a year whether i should claim depreciation for that? Is it compulsory?

Yes, depreciation is charged from the installation date of the Asset (whether it is used or not, for any year or part of year)till the end of life of the Asset.
So, u can claim depreciation for that respective year.
