Quick Summary

If your tax paid challan details weren't generated when you filed your Income Tax Return (ITR), you have a couple of options. You cannot directly add the challan details to your already filed return. Instead, you must first e-verify your original ITR. After verification, you can either file a revised return (under section 139(5) of the IT Act) to include the challan information, or you can wait for a demand to be raised and then submit the challan details via the outstanding demand tab in your ITR login.

28 September 2025 I had filed return for the financial year 2024-25 on 15th September 2025. I had paid the payable tax on the 15th but challan details were not generated. I had filed the return on the 15th September with the option of pay tax later as the challan details were not generated. Now the challan details are generated. I have not e verified my return yet. Where can I submit the details of this challan?

29 September 2025 You cannot add the payment details in already filed ITR. You have to verify the original ITR first, then file revised return u/s. 139(5) IT act to add the challan details.

29 September 2025 Both are equivalent options. whichever you prefer. We generally prefer second one.
