Yes why not.
There is no such restriction in law which debars Independent director to be appointed as Chairman of the company.
It is very much possible when as Independent director is appointed as Chairman of the Company. Actually we have to decide the status of independence of the director as that is the main issue.
If the person is independent from all angels, then he can be appointed as Chairman of the Company. But this kind of corporate governance is not followed in India.
