Can I calim deduction under 80DD

This query is : Resolved

11 July 2011 Dear Sir,

I am a salaried individual. My mother is blind and she is dependent on me. He has been blind for more than 6 years. I never claimed any tax exemption for her disability. Recently, I came to know that section 80DD suits this scenario.

Please let me know, if I can claim exemption towards this for this year and towards previous years, if possible. if so, what proofs to be submitted.

Regards,
Kishore

11 July 2011 yes, you are eligible to claim 80D
you have to submit
1) certificate from a Govt hospital regarding the blindness of your mother.

2) a declaration of expenses, and that she totally dependent on yourself, and not on anybody else.

you can claim for current year, and preceeding years, for more years you would have to revise your returns and get refund.

11 July 2011 Thanks Mr Sharma, for your response.

She has got certificate from LV Prasad Eye Institute and which she uses for Railway concession. I believe the same proof is sufficient.

Regarding declaration of expenses - Where and who issues it? Any specific pattern?

Thanks,
Kishore

11 July 2011 to submit to your employer, you have to submit a letter regarding expenses and dependency
