Can a Part time Accountant eligible for gratuity?

20 June 2010 I have worked in a Hosiery shop as part time Accountant for 18 long years.I asked the Management to give me Gratuity but they rejected,saying part time staff is not eligible.Is it Correct?

20 June 2010 As per Gratuity ACt,1972
Employee means any person employed on wages in any establishment, factory ,mines,oilfield, plantation,port or railwaycompany or shop to do any work whether the term of employment are express or implied and whether or not he is employed in a manegerial or administrative capacity
As per the definition of employee a part time must cover under this definition unless any other diqualification attracted
