This query is : Resolved

13 January 2016 hi. can any one help me to calculate short term and long term capital gain of shares. How to calculate this gain when the person doing transaction through DMAT account. how to calculate F & O calculation. please provide me excel sheet for such calculation

13 January 2016 Assuming these are listed equity shares liable for STT payment, then the applicable sections are:
STCA (period of holding not in excess or equal to 12 months) --> at a special rate 15% of tax u/s 111A;
LTCA (period of holding in excess of 12 months) --> exempt u/s 10(38).

Also on assuming these are unlisted equity shares and not liable for STT payment, then the applicable sections are:
STCA: (period of holding not in excess or equal to 36 months) --> at normal rates of tax u/s 45
LTCA: (period of holding in excess of 36 months) --> Tax payable u/s 112 with indexation in case of resident.
Note: In case of non-residents as per first proviso to section 48.-
1. No indexation benefit is available for non-resident;
2. Sale proceeds has to be converted into foreign currency in which shares were purchased;
3. Capital gain has to be reconverted into INR to compute tax liability.
