07 August 2010 A member of the Institute of CA of India is non practising Chartered Accountant working in an organisation and in the organisation there are only 5 working days, ie; Monday to Friday, and 2 days are leaves.

Can such member obtain COP from the institute to practice only on Saturday & Sunday?

Is it possible to practice in such condition?

07 August 2010 no..a member in full time (day) employment is not eligible for practice.
hwevr he can work with the org holding COP.... but as a consultant & not employee.

07 August 2010 You can take the COP but its status is Part Time and you are not allowed to certify and attest.

Then you can enter into partnership with any CA firm as a Part Time COP Holder Partner.

07 August 2010 if any member in company, his/her name in pay roll register then he/she can not hold COP. if he/she works as a consultant then can hold COP.

07 August 2010 Sorry to say, but an CA employee can hold COP but it is Part Time.
There is no restriction that if a person is an employee in any organization, then he cannot hold COP.

With due regards Sir, for the Part time COP benefits as i already said, that you are not allowed to certify, attest or sign any audit reports. But there are other works too which does not require any certification or attestation from a CA.
Based on my recent experience, i recently got a professional assignment from a company to help them in getting registration under various labour laws. This does not require any certification or attestation.

Sir, I am saying this on my personal experience. I am personally is in employment and also holds Part Time COP and have my own CA Firm. In case, you require i will send you my Mem No. and details, so that you can view the status on CA Website about my status. Please let me know.

12 September 2015 hello rahul gupta and Mr Sisodia... I have a query for Rahul. You can not have a sole proprietory firm when you hold part time COP. Can you please update if I am wrong as this was confirmed by me with institute. Further for part time COP holder they can not attest any function but other than attestation they can carry on all other areas like accounting, filling of returns, representation and other audits where attestation not needed like system audit or other internal audits right ??

10 April 2019 Everybody is having their own view on what they are saying for Part COP ..can anyone share ICAI verdict on this ?? where it is written that Part Time COP holder can not do attest function ??? he can not Perform Audit but ICAI has never commented on attest/certification of other works..
