I have become CA in Nov 2012 attempt. Can anyone tell me whether it is necessary to obtain CA Membership No. Actually I have listened both opinions as some of my friends have not taken CA Membership no.

doing CA course is a qualification and degree for you but until you not applied for membership with Institute and you got the membership number you can not associate with ICAI and you have not the signatory authority power.

Most person not taking membership number because they also want to do membership of other profeion like CMA or CS or LLB.

02 March 2013 In lay man language, I would like to describe that there are two types of Membership. 1. CAs in service can also apply for Membership 2. While CAs in practice has to apply as Practicising Member.

Now Member of ICAI (Not practising) can also hold the membership of other Institution like ICSI.

Also, It is not compulsory to obtain this membership (ICAI) but it is advisable to always have membership so that your name will always be there in ICAI Member directory.

All I explained above is purely in layman language but one can also refer the various CA Journal as well ICAI Act & Regulations to know more.
