Yes. A Chartered Accountant (CA) in practice who wishes to have a business started in her name—even if she is not actively involved—must seek prior permission from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) under Regulation 190A of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988. This is mandatory even when the CA's name is being used and she does not participate in the business day-to-day. Permission is often granted if the CA is a sleeping partner, or if the business interest is acquired through inheritance and there is no active role.
