is it mandatory to pay bonus for the yr in which an employee has resign???

Yes if he worked in that year then it is mandatory to pay irrespective of the fact he resigns during the F.Y.

He is eligible for Bonus for proportionate period of working during the year in which he resigned provided the Company declares / pays Bonus for that year.
