Ay 2015-16 return transferred to my ao

06 January 2016 Hi,

My return has been transferred to my AO from CPC in august 2015, This is for AY2015-16. I am not in India and contacted my AO through grievance system. After 4 months, on December end my AO is saying that they do not have my return with them.So, I am not sure where is my return now as CPC is saying it is transferred to my AO.

Please suggest what shall I do in this case? Please note that I am not in India as of now.

07 January 2016 the AO has time till 30 September 2016 to issue you a notice for this return. Till the time the notice is issued, there is no point in running after the tax officer. Engage a CA in the city where tax office is located to pursue this matter after september 2016.

Only my confusion is that AO is saying they do not have my return with them. Is it possible that they will get my return from CPC after so many months? CPC transferred the return to my AO in August 2015. Still it is not with them.

See, right now a AO will be busy in closing out the returns for earlier return. They won't even bother about your return before August 2016. So don't worry too much. We have even AY 2013-14 pending in some of our clients' cases.
