Whether to choose a mediocre firm or go for specialisation in a big firm. And reason thereof.

Mediocre is a word which you should eliminate if you can get a solid exposure in a reputed firm say a Big 4 in your career. There is nothing like getting a wonderful head start in your professional journey and why not in a Big 4 if you really can make it.
Big 4 would evaluate your core areas of interest and offer you either in Audit or Tax line and based on your performance and passion, you can act accordingly.
When you are young and energetic and going to learn the global best practices grab such hands with both hands, else life long you may regret for having missed a golden opportunity. Mind you, there be enormous challenges and pressure when you work for Big 4 but it is worth exploring such avenue.
