In ITR-3 (for audit cases) for A.Y. 2024-25, under the “Audit Information” section, the “Acknowledgment number of the audit report” refers to the reference number generated at the time the audit report (e.g., Form 3CD or any other statutory audit report) is uploaded to the Income Tax e-filing portal. The ITR-3 form explicitly provides separate fields for: Date of report of the audit Acknowledgment number of the audit report UDIN (Unique Document Identification Number) Income Tax India Please do not confuse the acknowledgment number with the UDIN: Acknowledgment number: Issued by the e-filing system upon successful upload of the audit report. UDIN: Generated by ICAI to authenticate the audit documentation. Practical Tip: Always note down the acknowledgement number immediately after uploading the audit report. This ensures that you can accurately fill in the ITR-3 without mixing it up with the UDIN. The inclusion of both these fields (Acknowledgment number + UDIN) became mandatory for ITR-3 filing under Section 44AB from A.Y. 2024-25 onward.
