03 June 2011 i am undertaking contract of pop( plaster of paris)with material+labour from main contractor who is register under the interior decorrter services. i am paying vat tax under composit sceme as works contractor.
1) can i pay service tax under works contract.as composit scheme
2)or i have to pay under interior decorater services.
Or i can claim exemption if my main contractor is paying service tax on whole contract.pleas advise me thanks

06 June 2011 if your works contract(WC) services are covered under service tax category defines nature of WC, then u can pay ST under composite scheme otherwise have to pay under which category u your transaction covered. NO- u can claim exemption on that ground of payment of tax by main contractor.
