TDS/TCS Claimed and Refund received in previous year

Quick Summary

If you received a TDS refund last year, the principal amount is not considered income for the current year. However, any interest earned on that refund should be declared as income in your current Income Tax Return (ITR). Tax Collected at Source (TCS) shown in your AIS, such as from a car purchase, can be directly claimed in your ITR and is not treated as income.

24 August 2025 WHETHER THE TDS REFUND OF INR.19620/- CLAIMED AND RECEIVED IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR SHOULD BE TREATED AS INCOME THIS YEAR (PURCHASE OF CAR)AND DECLARED IN CURRENT ITR ? AIS IS SHOWING UNDER TCS.

24 August 2025 Any refund received in preceding year is not the income, but interest part in it is the income to be declared in current ITR.
TCS appearing in AIS (collected by car dealer) can be claimed directly in ITR; it is not income.
