If you've selected the wrong assessment year or minor head when paying your Self Assessment tax challan, you should submit a correction letter to your Assessing Officer (AO). While waiting for the correction, if you receive a demand notice, reply online stating that the correction request is pending with the AO. Even if the challan isn't immediately visible in the department's system, it should eventually reflect, and the delay is likely due to processing.

Follow it up with AO. Reply, demand paid, in view of wrong assessment year correction letter submitted to AO. After correction challan will be updated in the E filing portal.

I met AO office staff, they say challan is not reflecting in our system, that's why they can't make corrections, while challan is being shown in my AIS for AY 24-25 as advance tax paid Why challan is not reflecting in income tax department website?
