Wrong a.y.in bank challan & tax paid online.

08 July 2017 Sir/madam, My son paid income tax for A.Y.2016-17 thro' bank challan online dtd.23/07/2016 & receipt was generated online. It was his first time. On 27/12/2016 a Demand notice by CPC,Banglore was received for payment of FULL TAX i.e.Rs.30323/-. When Challan was examined it was found that he had mentioned Wrong A.Y.2015-16 instead of 2016-17. HE shocked & DEPOSITED full tax demanded i.e.Rs.30323/- thro' bank challan under all heads/A.Y.This time all OK. Now, how previous AMOUNT paid by Previous challan could be Refunded/Adjusted. YET, HE HAS TO FILE RETURN FOR A.Y.2017-18. Please help my son,sir. Thanks.

23 November 2017 Madam,
Is there any Last date for correction in Challan as previously mentioned by you. Since My son working in Bangalore, May I(father) contact A.O. or can it be corrected in Bangalore,ITO itself ?
As I am a Senior Citizen, please guide me & help me. Native place is about 2000km away for my son. Thanks please, Madam.
