WHETHER UPDATED RETURN FILED U/S 139(8A) BECAME DEFECTIVE U/S 139(9) THEN SUCH RETURN CAN BE RECTIFIED OR CAN BE FILED U/S 139(8A) AGAIN?

Yes, defective return can be rectified within the time allowed. After the lapse of the time allowed it can be filed again.
It can't be rectified for the return filed with late filing fee of 1000 only.
