what is works contract? what this mean by? when does it become arise? is there any specific number issued by maharashtra vat dept?

A works contract happens when some work involving labour and supply of material is done.This attracts VAT and ST both.All kinds of civil works,electrical,plumbing painting etc are all WCT....mjk
