Verification of marks

This query is : Resolved

29 August 2016 I HAVE APPEARED IN JUNE 2016 EXECUTIVE EXAMINATION IN BOTH MODULES. I HAVE CLEARED ALL PAPERS IN MODULE 2 AND 3 PAPERS IN MODULE 1. MY MARKS DETAILS ARE
CL--48
CMA--57
ECL--28
TLP--45
TOTAL--178
CAAP--40
CMSL--50
ILGL--60
TOTAL--150
GRAND TOTAL--328
CAN I APPLY FOR VERIFICATION OF MARKS. ARE THERE ANY CHANCES OF PASSING ECL WITH ATLEAST 40% AND GET AN AGGREGATE OF 50%.

29 August 2016 Do not apply for verification. Highly unlikely that you can clear after verification. Instead start preparing for next attempt.

29 August 2016 THANK U FOR THE ADVICE SIR, THIS IS MY FIRST ATTEMPT...I HAVE WRITTEN WELL IN ECL BUT WAS DOUBTFUL IF I WOULD CLEAR COMPANY LAW....... WAS EXPECTING 35 MARKS IN COMPANY LAW AND 50 MARKS IN ECL.............INSTEAD I GOT 48 IN COMPANY LAW AND 28 IN ECL........HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?????

30 August 2016 In professional exam it does not always go the way we expect it to go...So just forget about all these and focus on next exam...Analyze the area where you need to improve and give your best shot.

13 November 2016 Dear Sir,
I have cleared CS executive module 2 in June 2016. In module 1 I have cleared 3 papers but failed in economic and commercial laws (ECL). I got less than 60 marks in all three which I have cleared. If in this attempt I will fail in any of the three papers which I have passed in June, will I be declared as fail or pass??? Please help.....

03 August 2025 You're dealing with an important situation regarding **CS Executive exam rules** — especially around **retention of marks and exemption** when you **fail one paper but pass others**.

Let me break it down clearly:

---

### ✅ **Your Current Position (June 2016 Attempt):**

* **Module 2**: ✅ Cleared all papers (Total: 150) — **Done**
* **Module 1**:

* **CL** – 48 ✅
* **CMA** – 57 ✅
* **TLP** – 45 ✅
* **ECL** – 28 ❌
* **Total**: 178

You passed **3 out of 4 papers in Module 1**, but **failed ECL** (Economic and Commercial Laws).

---

### ❓ Now Your Question:

> If in your next attempt, you **fail any of the three papers you already passed**, will you be declared **fail for Module 1**?

---

### ✅ **Answer: No, you won't be declared fail** — **if you scored 60 or more in any of those 3 papers**, you’ll get an **exemption**, and won’t need to reappear in that paper again.

BUT in your case:

> You got **less than 60** in all the 3 passed subjects in Module 1:

* CL – 48
* CMA – 57
* TLP – 45

➡️ **So, no exemption** applies.

---

### 🔁 **As per ICSI Exemption Rules** (for CS Executive):

* If you score **60 or more in any paper**, and fail the module, you get an **exemption** in that paper.
* If your score is **less than 60**, even if it's above 40 (pass mark), you must **reappear** in that paper **if you fail the module** overall.

---

### 🚨 So, What Happens in the Next Attempt?

You **must reappear for all 4 papers** of Module 1 if you don’t pass the module in full (i.e., ECL + total 200 marks in all 4 papers).
If you fail any one of the three you already cleared, **you will be declared fail for Module 1 again**.

---

### 🔍 Regarding Verification of Marks for ECL:

* You got **28 marks** in ECL (needs 40 to pass).
* You're wondering if verification could help you get +12 marks.

➡️ **Realistically**, verification may result in **1–2 marks increase** at best, **rarely more**.

📌 If you feel **strongly** that your paper was evaluated unfairly (especially if you genuinely expected \~50), you can still **apply for verification** — it’s low cost and low risk.

---

### 📝 What You Can Do Now:

| Action | Suggestion |
| --------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Apply for ECL verification? | ✅ Yes, if you’re confident your paper deserved better |
| Reattempt all 4 papers in Module 1 next time? | ✅ Yes (unless verification helps you clear) |
| Focus on strengthening ECL | ✅ Definitely |
| Forget previous marks and stay focused | 💯 Yes — it’s your **first attempt**, and you’re close to passing both modules |

---

Let me know if you want help drafting a **verification request** or a **study plan for ECL**. You're very close to the finish line — don’t let this small dip slow you down.
