VAT - SALES TAX

This query is : Resolved

30 June 2010 what are the difference between VAT and Sales tax in Andhra pradesh state?

30 June 2010 there is no difference between VAT and Sales tax. They are one and same, VAT means Value Added Tax. VAT is new name of Sales tax.

VAT is scheme of taxation for sales tax
and CENVAT is scheme of Taxatin of CEntral Excise

Then will also have GST form 1-4-2011, VAT will become GST.

So VAT = Salestax
GST will be VAT + Excise + Service TAx and all many more taxes

This is true not only in Andra, but all over india.

30 June 2010 The General Sales Tax of the states has been repealed by VAT laws.

In case of inter state transaction Central Sales Tax is charged.
