Dear Sir,
Whether Vat can be collected on the packing charges of an item .
Eg: Item cost Rs.500.00
Packing charges 50.00
Vat @ 5 % 27.50
Total bill = 577.50

yes you can charge VAT on packing charge also.
your calculation is right if your finished goods and packing charges come under VAT rate 5%
