Urgent Query- Registers maintenance for Excise

17 June 2009 Hi,

I have few queries regarding statutory requirements for registers under Excise rules:
a) Is it mandatory to maintain registers like DSA, RG 23A, RG 23C etc?
b) Can these records be maintained in Excel sheet in computer or they must necessasrily be maintained in Physical Registers or trusted Softwares only?
c) If Excel is fine, can u plz name some recognized companies which are maintaining excise registers in Excel?

18 June 2009 Statutory record have been done away with more than 5 years back.

All manufacturers under excise maintain the registers as per some software. Samller companies may use Tally which also provides the facility.
Many also maintian in excel. However names cannot be disclosed as we are all professionals.

18 June 2009 So, Maintaining records in Excel Sheet will be fine or Excise deptt can question this?

12 September 2009 You can maintain the records in any way of your computer system. Physical Registers are not mandotory. You have to take a Print monthly and file physically for excise purpose.
