Transfer of shares of person who is dead

30 July 2014 My friend's paternal uncle had died 3-4 years ago. He had some shares in Joint ownership with his wife. She is also no more. Now my friend want to transfer that shares in his own name? If yes what is the procedure? Kindly help if possible!!
